today i went to the pet store in search of baby seal food.
and all i found were these fishes, of the “keep as pet” variety. my favorites, i think, are the silver ones that are flat on the side and swim in packs, or flocks or something. whatever you call it with fish.
also some fish that i like are as follows:
* the ones that are striped and sort of long instead of round
* the ones with the yellow tails that would otherwise be ignorable boring fish
* the silver one that looked sort of like a miniature shark
* the one that was really just a frog and not a fish at all
* the ones with the smaller stripes that were further apart but still were black stripes
these could have been in fresh water, salt water, some new kind of water that i’ve never even heard about, or maybe in a combination of any of the above. the point is: i don’t really know because as it turns out, i don’t know anything about fish.
i used to know a girl who knew all about fish and could probably tell me what all of these fish were and where they came from and how long they will get and if you could eat them and which ones have teeth and how many of the striped ones would it take to kill one of those small shark looking ones and all of the other stuff that i was too lazy to read from the sticker on the tank. she also knew all about plants and vegetables and raising chickens and farm life and suburban life and city life and having been raised by the internet. i was enamored.
that girl was then eaten by a ghost. a friendly ghost, but still. consumed.
i know, really anti-climatic, right?
